A typical Season on Lake Ontario!
May 1st through the end of September is when the King Salmon
fishery on Lake Ontario is in High Gear! We officially start our season in the Western basin of Lake Ontario out of Wilson
Harbor. Wilson Harbor sits 12 miles to the East of the Niagara River, which influences the Spring Salmon season heavily. The
warm waters concentrate the King Salmon here throughout the month of May, and into the beginning of June. Beautiful
chrome colored King Salmon will tear hundreds of feet of line off our Daiwa reels. Battles with these fish can average
15-20 minutes, but can go upwards of 30 minutes on the GIANTS. During this time it is very common for the Coho Salmon
and Steelhead to keep you busy while waiting for the King Salmon bite. We are also fishing the best part of Lake Ontario
for a trophy Lake Trout.
We break for the month of June and the first half of July so we can
fish tournaments up and down the Lake. The fishing is very hit or miss during these times, so trust me when I say your not
missing much. During this time the Lake under goes a transition. This transition is when the thermoclines set up and the fish
are typically scattered.
In July we continue with the King Salmon season and will take it into
early September. We will usually hang out off shore chasing these giant schools as they migrate down the Lake. Through
networking with many accomplished captains along Lake Ontario I can put us on the best and most active schools of King Salmon
day in and day out. The location of the boat during these times is typically Point Breeze (Oak Orchard). This is the most
consistent port July-September on the entire Lake.
