Spring Kings! Well,
it is only about 53 days till we dump the Yankee Troller in for the 2009 season. After this really long winter the whole crew
is itching to get out there and hear some screaming reels! Not to mention playing with all the new gear we have accumulated
over the last few months. May is one
of the most memorable months of the year for us because the Salmon fishing can be the hottest of the entire year. The fish
aren't at their largest state yet, but the cool water has these fish jacked up, and tightly schooled! Numerous days end
with 15-20+ bites. Now that's what going fishing is supposed to be like! Constant action, good times, and tons of smiles!
Dates are limited from repeat customers so if this is of interest to you please call to save your date today! All that is
required is a deposit to hold whatever day you choose. Now don't think that May is the only time for great fishing on Lake Ontario. July and August
can be, and typically are, just as good. Maybe one of the things that makes May so nice is the atmosphere present in the towns
of Wilson and Olcott. However, July and August is when the Salmon really start to pack on the pounds. Just last August we
took our largest Salmon of the year out of Point Breeze (Oak Orchard) weighing in at 30.03 pounds. We also had numerous 20+
fish days out there too. So if May isn't going to work for you other dates are available.
What are you waiting for! Call today
to book your charter! Captain Richard

A-TOM-MIK
"Live" Series Trolling Flies A few days ago I made mention of, and included a picture of, the new A-TOM-MIK "Live"
series trolling flies. What these are is a regular mylar trolling fly with added silicon strands (similar to something you
would see on a spinnerbait skirt). Just something different, and that's all it takes sometimes. This is something
we will be running during the 2009 season in addition to all the great colors Tom already produces. I personally cant wait
to get these things in the water! Anyway, here is a list of all the new colors, which can be ordered through Tom at his website
(http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/index.html), or at various tackle shops up and down the lake.

2009 DEC's State of
the Lake Meeting
DEC SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON THE FUTURE OF LAKE ONTARIO FISHERIES
Series of Public Meetings to be Held to Assist in Development of Fish Community
Objectives The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will hold a series of public meetings in
March of 2009 to obtain comments on the Lake Ontario fishery that will help the agency develop new fish community objectives.
Fish community objectives are broad-based goals that will guide DEC and the Province of Ontario’s Ministry of Natural
Resources in managing Lake Ontario fisheries.
“DEC
is committed to sound, science-based management of Lake Ontario fisheries to maintain high-quality angling opportunities and
their associated economic benefits,” said DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis. “In light of the dramatic and rapid changes
to the Lake Ontario ecosystem, we will continue to work with local communities to chart the course for the future of this
important resource.”
DEC strongly encourages people with an interest in
the Lake Ontario ecosystem to participate in this process. Prior to attending a meeting, participants should review the fish
community objectives document prepared in 1997 and a brief summary of ecological changes that have taken place in the Lake
Ontario ecosystem on the internet at http://www.seagrant.sunysb.edu/glsportfish/pdfs/LOnt-EcoIndicators-Fall08.pdf . This
background material also can be obtained from the Cape Vincent Fisheries Station by writing to:
NYSDEC Cape Vincent Fisheries Station P.O. Box 292 Cape Vincent, New York 13618 (315) 654 - 2147
Anyone who is unable to participate in a public meeting,
but wishes to submit comments should send them to the fisheries station at the above address or via e-mail to srlapan@gw.dec.state.ny.us DEC biologists and staff from cooperating agencies and universities will present information at the beginning of each meeting
describing the current status of the Lake Ontario fishery. The public will then have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss
any information presented. Following this question and answer session, participants will be offered an opportunity to provide
written comments that will assist DEC and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources with planning efforts for the future of
the Lake Ontario fishery.
The public meetings will be held at the following
times and locations:
- Monday, March 9, 2009, from 7 - 10 p.m. at the Oswego County
BOCES, County Route 64, Mexico, New York. For information, contact Dan Bishop in the DEC Cortland office at (607) 753-3095.
- Tuesday,
March 10, 2009, from 7 - 10 p.m. in the Ingle Auditorium at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). For information, contact
Linda Vera in the DEC Avon office at 585-226-5324.
- Wednesday, March 18, 2009, from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at
the Niagara County Cooperative Extension, 4H Training Center Auditorium, 4487 Lake Avenue (Route 78), Lockport, New York.
For information, contact Paul McKeown in the DEC Allegany suboffice at (716) 372-0645 or Mike Wilkinson in the DEC Buffalo
office at (716) 851-7010;
In addition
to the New York meetings, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources will host a series of meetings to obtain public comments
on the fish community objectives. Once this process is complete, revised draft fish community objectives will be made available
for public review and comment.

2009 LOTSA
EXPO Well, we participated in our first
"show" this past Sunday to help promote our business, and to show off some new products we are going to use for
2009. I have worked booths at trade shows for my full
time gig, so I knew a little bit about what to expect. We had a crowd of over 400 people come through the door to watch several
seminars by some of Lake Ontario's finest captains, and to walk around the various booths loaded with product, charter
businesses, and stuff people wanted to sell. LOTSA (Lake Ontario Trout and
Salmon Association) is an organization that looks after our fish in Lake Ontario to make sure they are getting the proper
care. They have been pen rearing fish for many years. This organization works closely with the DEC (Department of Conservation)
in an attempt to maximize our stocking activities to ensure optimal amounts of fish come Spring, Summer, and Fall. Well, as was said above we had a booth set up for our
business to promote Crazy Yankee Sportfishing. A laptop was on the table promoting our reports and blog section that so many
people read on a daily basis. Last year during the May Spring Salmon season we had a great following, and I am looking to expand that for 2009. These reports, along
with various other ones out there, are here to help the weekend warrior out by giving them details about where the fish are,
and what they are feeding on to maximize their time on the water. We also had a booth displaying some of our sponsors products. The "New" for
2009 Dawia Saltist were a HUGE hit. Everyone that touched one was extremely amazed at how light and smooth they were.
If you are interested in some of these
I talked with Captains Cove and they expressed interest in carrying them and said that they are fairly sure they can get them. We had a very large
display of SmartFish that took up third of the table. People were amazed at how versatile they are, and were quite curious
about where to buy them. I know I have seen them in all the Gander Mountain stores, and I know A-TOM-MIK sells them combo'd
up with some of his flies. We also displayed all the new Norther King spoon colors for 2009, and of course the Sea Sick Waddler
was included in that spread. Lastly, we received our shipment of MEGA Sharks on Sunday. WOW! These thigns are big. I feel
sorry for those Salmon who used to hide in the depths. Check out a picture of us at our booth. The Northern King display was
MIA because it was being used in a seminar. All in all it was a fun time, with some good
people that got us all out of our houses. We are looking forward to dumping the boat in the water around the 1st or 2nd week
of April. So the reports will be coming soon! Keep checking back for an up to date on my blog.

New Products for 2009!
I am REALLY excited to get hooked up with that first Salmon of 2009, but I'm
also excited about using some of the new products we have acquired from manufacturers over the last few months.
New
from A-TOM-MIK manufacturing is the "Live Series" fly. This fly has living strands of silicone incorporated into
the mylar/tinsel of a regular fly. This concept isn't new, but it is definitely a producer! We look forward to running
these fly's in the 2009 season.
New for 2009 from Daiwa is their new Saltist Levelwind series. These reels
have been in their Saltwater lineup for a number of years, so they have proven themselves very durable. They have added a
levelwind to them so us Great Lakes fisherman can use them. These reels come in a high speed version, which is great because
the 50 series reel is perfect for leadcore and short copper applications.
Lastly, from Legendary Products,
makers of that AWESOME flasher we stumbled upon in 2008....the SmartFish, comes a line of spoons I'm really excited to
run for both Salmon and Trout. This spoon comes in the typical "regular" size that all of us Salmon and Trout gurus
love to run. The difference with this spoon is the diamond pattern that is hammered into it. It's light, but looks to
be very durable.

Salmon River 2/1/09 w/ Chasin' Tail Adventures
I cant get
enough of this river fishing for some reason! I rode up Sunday morning and met Andy Bliss and his friend Ricky at Fat Nancy's
Tackle shop (where I dropped another 40 bucks on tackle). Not to be confused with the other Ricky while on the boat my code
name was Magic Man for the day and his was El Diablo! OK, lets shake and bake! <-----If you dont understand any of that....watch
the movie Talledega Nights! We hit the water around 8 a.m. at Altmar and floated down the river till about 3 p.m. Unlike the
previous trips I have made the weather on Sunday was enjoyable.
OK, so we are floating down the river and I have
had some great luck this winter on a blue glo bug. So, I was content on catching one on the Salmon River on this blue glo
bug. Well that didn't take long! I was locked into a nice Brownie and the results were Magic Man 1 Fish 0! So, after short
while and watching El Diablo hook and land a few Steelies I switched over to the bag in hopes of a steelhead. Well, it didn't
take long and I was locked up again. But guess what? It was another Brownie. So, now its Magic man 2 fish 0. A short way down
the river and that little float goes under. Guess what? Yup, another Brownie. Are you getting the picture here? Its looking
like a Brownie kind of day.
So at the end of the entire trip the results for the boat were:
Magic Man
- 4 for 7 (all BT landed) El Diablo - 3 for 3 (all Steelhead landed) Captain/Guide/Paddler/Goon - 2 for 3 (1 BT.
1 SH) Andy's SH he landed was a very nice fish and when we went to take a picture his camera was dead.
By the
way if you ever want to fish on the Salmon River it is a pre-requisite that you learn the proper way to use the word GOON.
Don't ask me why. That's just the way it is. I also want all PRO Pro-Am participants to be very cautious of me this
year. With the experience of last years Sodus tourney (where I actually went BT fishing) and the BT in the rivers I might
throw you a curve ball by doing a little more Trout fishing! I think I have them figured out!
Here are some pics:
